Cairo, Saturday, 18 October 2025
Senator Ahmed Abou Hashima, a member of the Egyptian Senate, took the oath prescribed by Article 39 of the Senate’s Internal Regulations during the opening sitting of the first ordinary session of the second legislative term. Members continued taking the oath throughout the inaugural sitting, which convened following the presidential decree calling the Council to meet.
“I swear by Almighty God to loyally preserve the republican system, to respect the Constitution and the law, to fully safeguard the interests of the people, and to maintain the independence of the nation and the unity and integrity of its territory.”
The opening session also includes the election of the Senate Bureau, comprising the President of the Senate and two Deputies, whose terms extend for the full five-year legislative term. Pursuant to Law No. 2 of 2021 issuing the Senate’s Internal Regulations, the Bureau is elected at the start of each legislative term. Article 12 specifies the Bureau’s composition, and Article 13 provides that the President and the two Deputies are elected from among the members by an absolute majority of valid votes. The sitting is presided over by the eldest attending member, assisted by the two youngest members.
